Bright & Shiny

A work in progress, dispatches from an isolated assemblage/textile artist who flirts with OCD. Read me rant and rave about my attempts to exhibit, teach, and administers all things arty farty.

Judy Baca visit to MSU and workshop update

April is its normal nuttiness, but with lots of good stuff happening!

First, the Judy Baca workshop and lecture on April 8 was totally amazing. This is why I adore my job @ MSU. Meeting and working with her (the artist responsible for The Great Wall of Los Angeles and the organization SPARC - Social and Public Art Resource Center, www.sparcmurals.org) and her assistant Carols Rogel was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me, the participating MSU faculty, and MSU students who worked on the mural and came to the lecture.

Here's me beaming with Judy Baca in front of the yet-to-be-finished student mural:

For next year, we're working on bringing in Chip Kidd (graphic design superstar) and Eleanor Heartney (contemporary art critic and writer). We'll see....

Also, Byzantium Beads in Columbus called and said that the May 17 workshop has totally filled up and they wanted to book another one in July to resolve the waiting list issue. So, the next workshop is scheduled on Sunday, July 13 (a week prior to the Craft Alliance in St. Louis gig, so it will be a packed two weeks....)
